Upgrading Movable Type
I'm about to attempt an upgrade to Movable Type, the software that's currently running this blog. If you start to see weirdness on the site, that's probably the reason. It doesn't help that I can't find proper instructions for upgrading...
This video shows a 1.1 -> 3.2 upgrade as being seamless, so 3.1 -> 3.3 is presumably no more difficult.
Expect some template weirdness once I've upgraded.

Well, that seems to have gone without too many problems. The only remaining issue is that there is a 0byte file somewhere in my blog directory after Cyberduck had issues uploading one of the many files required.

Despite it all working as previously on the outside, I'm getting a lot of timeouts when trying to do things like rebuild the site. I've also come across the same problem (where Safari tells me it's lost the network connection, though I'm pretty sure it hasn't) when moderating comments (I've made comments available to all again, so no need to sign up to TypePad).
In frustration, I've been looking for answers online that suggest limiting the number of things that MT tries to do in one go, and whilst I think it helps it last a little longer, it still keels over. I got to a point where it was frustrating me too much, and I attempted to install Drupal. Using a PHP system instead of a Perl/CGI one should make things less stressful.
Even Drupal's installer keeled over just before it had completed installation, so I suspect perhaps it's just that the shared server I'm on at the moment is under a heavy load and is dropping connections occasionally (often). I'll see how it goes, but now that I know I can get Drupal running on 34SP's servers, I can start putting some more weight behind my plans from a year ago to migrate the whole of my website (and blog) to Drupal.

Oh, the same thing happens when simply posting a comment as well. D'oh.
