Seasons Greetings! posted 10 Dec 2002 by Dan Karran [permalink] Seasons greetings to all those choosing to visit my website instead of braving the freezing weather outside and fighting your way through the Christmas shopping crowds. Some of you may have noticed that poor lonely little holly leaf dangling from the top of the site. Well, I was considering making the whole top banner of my site into a snowy wonderland, but then I found this nice little bit of holly in Paint Shop Pro and thought I'd use that instead; it saves hunting for snowy effects, after all . After work tonight, I decided to go out and do some Christmas shopping in Oxford Street. Whilst it wasn't anywhere near as busy as it was on Saturday - when I tried to start my seasonal shopping - it was still pretty hectic, and freeeeezing. Brrrr. I managed to find a few presents for people, but for the large part remained uninspired, which is a shame. On saturday, I didn't find any presents and all I ended up getting was a nice new, warm jacket for myself. Coming home, I went via Marble Arch, just to find it all lit up in blue with music coming out from beneath. It turned out they had made it into an ice skating rink, so I went in and took some photos. That is, before the batteries in my camera decided they'd had enough. I knew I should have started carrying my spare set around with me as well. D'oh!

28 days later... posted 8 Dec 2002 by Dan Karran [permalink] Tonight, I went to see 28 days later at the cinema with a few of my friends from work. Based on the book of the same name, it is a horror film about a deadly virus unleashed unwittingly by animal rights protestors in Cambridge. 28 days later, Jim, the main character, awakes in a hospital to find it empty, as with the rest of the capital - bar a few of the infected... I thought the film was truly excellent, and well worth going to see. Set in London, I think it must be one of the best British films - if not the best - I've ever seen. Quite scary to think though, that in theory it could so easily happen in real life, especially as I'm living in the city it was filmed in. It was good to see movie locations I've come to know quite well. In fact it kind of took me back to the days when I used to keep ManxFilms up to date with all the latest goings on in the Manx film industry. Not living on the Island now though, it's quite difficult for me to stay ahead of the game with what is going on over there, which is the main reason I haven't been posting any updates to the ManxFilms site. Anyway, when the film had finished, I realised it had already turned 11.30pm, so we had to run through Angel underground station to make sure we caught the last tube home. What fun! Only trouble now that I'm home though, I don't feel tired. The combination of 28 days later and Godzilla before must have frightened my poor little mind. Hehe

Content updating posted 6 Dec 2002 by Dan Karran [permalink] I have finally sat down and updated some of the content in my site, some of which has been a little stale for a while. I've only really made slight changes but important ones none the less - to ensure it is up to date. The website design section is one I want to improve next. I plan to expand this part of my site with more information about what I actually do in the arena of web development. I will also detail more of the services I have provided for people in the past and can offer to others in the future.
