I have had a camera since a very young age. I think the first one I can remember was a tiny little 110 film camera literally only a little bit bigger than the size of the film itself. Since then I have had a number of cameras but had a relatively simple automatic one for quite some time.
I turned to digital photography in around 1998 when I got my first digital camera. I can't actually remember what model it was but I soon upgraded it to a Kodak DC240i which had an optical zoom. That's when my love of sunset photography began. Whilst it was great being able to upload the photos directly to the computer without having to get them processed, the quality was not up to being printed in photo quality. When the lens mechanism started to malfunction a couple of years later I decided I was going to go back to manual photography.
Then, when I went off to university my parents kindly bought me a Minolta Dynax 404Si SLR camera for my 18th birthday. The ability to change the zoom and focus with the lens meant that I could have much more freedom and control over the photos I took. Many of the photos on this site were taken using my SLR.
When the costs began to mount up I bought myself a FujiFilm FinePix S602 Zoom digital camera. The new camera has most of the benefits that the SLR had (although without a changeable lens) and none of the running costs. Allowing me to store over a hundred high quality digital shots at a time, it gives me the chance to take many more photos than I ever would have considered previously. The majority of new photos on the site have been from this digital camera.
After two and a half years of enjoying taking photos with my FinePix S602 Zoom, I wanted a little more flexibility than that camera gave me. When I got an offer from a popular online retailer for the lowest priced digital SLR camera I had ever seen, I decided it was time to invest and upgrade to the more flexible Canon EOS 300D digital SLR camera.
